Cyrus Deboo is an absolute force in his show, There's Something Seriously Wrong with Cyrus: How I Went from a Hot Mess to a Hot Bitch. A brilliant writer, performer, and storyteller, he takes us on a hilarious, heartfelt ride from hot mess to hot bitch—and it's pure joy from start to finish.
Growing up shy and unsure of himself, Cyrus spent years figuring out who he was, with help from friends, family, and of course, Madonna (though lately Taylor Swift sneaks in there too). His story is about finding love, self-acceptance, and the courage to be fully himself—and he tells it with so much humor, heart, and infectious energy that you can't help but root for him the whole way.
Cyrus's acting is outstanding. His character work is defined, organic, and funny. It's effortless to follow every person he brings to life. Each character is distinct and full of heart, especially his portrayal of his dad, which is a total crowd and personal favorite. His transitions between characters feel seamless and real, always grounded in truth.
Even when he shares the heavier moments, Cyrus keeps the room full of hope. His characters are full of warmth, his stage presence is magnetic, and his message is universal. I smiled, laughed, and even teared up a little—but in the best way.
We need more stories like this—stories that don't play it safe. It's easy to hide in a world that punishes difference, but it's braver to stand up and say, "This is who I am." Cyrus's story, like all real stories, isn't just about one journey—it's a call to all of us to stop shrinking and start showing up. Every time someone speaks their truth, it shakes the ground a little—and sometimes, as Taylor says, you've just got to shake it off and keep going.
