LORENZO by Ben Target takes audiences on a whimsical journey through the quirks and challenges of intergenerational cohabitation. Directed by Adam Brace and Lee Griffiths, this true-life tale unfolds with a delightful blend of humor and heart.
As a unique pre-show ritual, Target, the playwright himself, mingles with the theatergoers, offering coffee from his thermos. He engages the audience in a thought-provoking exercise, asking them to fill out a form with the question, 'What is your fantasy death?' It's a slightly morbid but undeniably intriguing way to kick off the evening. The audience willingly participates, setting the stage for the unconventional journey that is about to unfold.
The narrative revolves around Target's poignant choice to leave his career as a stand-up comedian to care for his dear "Uncle" Lorenzo Wong. Lorenzo, a lifelong family friend who played a paternal role in Target's life, has suffered a stroke, prompting Target to return to his side after a fifteen-year absence. The emotional bond between them, forged through understanding and shared experiences, is at the heart of this touching tale.
The show then continues, showing how they navigate their new living arrangement. Tensions inevitably arise between them, resulting in comedic mishaps and heartfelt moments. Target's witty and energetic performance brings the characters to life, capturing the essence of their dynamic relationship with authenticity and charm. He depicts the hardships of caring for an ill family member with a light-hearted touch. For example, when they try to figure out which biscuit goes well with morphine tea shots-ginger snaps!
LORENZO is, at its core, a sweet story about the power of laughter in the face of adversity, caring for one's loved ones and knowing when to pause to do so.
Don't miss your chance to experience LORENZO's heartwarming journey! This show promises to leave a lasting impression.
