Daniel Cainer is back in New York City to perform his show, Jewish Chronicles...Christmas Special! Filled with stories, music and visuals this show is a perfect retreat from the hecticness of the holidays.
Cainer is a natural storyteller. His personality and charisma organically draw audiences in. His pairing of song and story gives the show a homely feeling, like sitting in a friend's living room, reminiscing about past times.
The songs are all original and heartfelt. One of my favorites was the opening song, "God Knows Where," which tells the story of his lineage and ancestor's migration to England. My other favorite was "Grandpa and Me". Cainer's performance is touching. The song tells of his time with his grandpa, specifically when he took Cainer to the cricket stadium.
The projections and images add an extra layer to his story-telling. The show included pictures of his family, childhood locations, and home city. This element further added to the welcoming tone of the performance.
Daniel Cainer is a true holiday delight! Make sure to catch him before he leaves town. Jewish Chronicles... Christmas Special! plays until December 23 at SoHo Playhouse.
